About Gemigliptin

Gemigliptin is very well known for its abilities to lower glucose levels thus making it an oral anti-hyperglycemic agent. It used to treat Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.

Some of the side effects of taking Gemigliptin are Nasopharyngitis, headaches, hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar level) in combination with insulin or sulphonylurea. If you encounter a severe allergic reaction or joint pain, alert your doctor immediately.

    How does this medication work?

    This medicine falls under the category of an anti-hyperglycemic agent which works by competitively and reversibly inhibiting the enzyme Dipeptidyl Peptidase-4 (DPP-4). DPP-4 breaks down enzymes GLP-1 and GIP, preventing them from performing their blood sugar regulatory activity. DPP-4 inhibition thus maintains normal blood sugar levels.
