About Chikungunya Antibody IgM Test

Chikungunya virus is more commonly known as ChikV and it is a single-stranded RNA arbovirus. The Chikungunya antibody IgM test is done to diagnose patients with recent or past ChikV infection. Mostly, the virus is known to affect inhabitants of Africa, Asia and Caribbean islands. Interestingly, the name Chikungunya is derived from the ethnic tribes Makonde of southeast Africa. A person infected with ChikV has unbearable joint pain. The virus is transmitted through mosquito bites. The symptoms usually begin with high fever, headache, vomiting, severe joint pain and a maculopapular rash. The test is ordered minimum 5 days after the onset of the symptoms.
