About Dehydroepiandrosterone Sulphate Test

Dehydroepiandrosterone Sulphate (DHEAS) is the name of a hormone produced by both men and women. The hormone is released from the adrenal glands and is the major contributor to the male traits. The test is carried out when DHEAs levels are imbalanced or not routinely measured. The main purpose of this test is to evaluate a person’s adrenal gland function. The DHEAS test is ordered in female when signs of virilization are observed. Also, if an infant girl is born with ambiguous genitalia. The test is also ordered whenever additional amount of androgen production is suspected in a person’s body.
