Cephalometric analysis is a diagnostic procedure used to study dental and skeletal relationships of the skull. It is primarily used by orthodontists and oral surgeons for planning. Done using a cephalometric radiograph, the machine is now also used to study the carpal bones of the hand. This is particularly useful to study post trauma conditions of the carpals. The method is preferred to a traditional X-ray due to the ease of obtaining a digital picture. The X-Rays emitted are, however, dangerous and care should be taken to avoid overexposure.
