About Sodium (Body Fluid) Test

This test is done on a sample of body fluid to measure the sodium levels in the body. It is conducted to identify and confirm inflammatory tumors and also during and after the treatment. Sodium, an electrolyte is found in all body fluids and is important for a body to function normally, including muscle and nerve functioning. It helps regulate the amount of fluid in the body and helps normal functioning of cells. A blood sodium test is prescribed to patients to monitor the effect any treatment on their bodies. This test is a part of the routine health checkup. It is primarily used to detect abnormal levels of sodium in the body like low sodium (hypernatremia) and high sodium (hypernatremia).
