Adenoviruses are non-enveloped icosahedral viruses that can cause complications like respiratory illness, infantile gastroenteritis and other mild disorders such as conjunctivitis. There are different types of Adenovirus antibodies which include a polyclonal antibody which recognizes many Adenovirus protein and the Adenovirus antigens; hexon and penton, which might include proteins on the surface. There are various kinds of antibodies. The IgM antibodies are discharged after certain days of exposure and indicate acute infection. This test identifies and measures adenovirus antibodies in blood. Adenoviruses are not fatal. However, infants and people with weak immune systems, or formerly suffering from respiratory or cardiac disease, are likely to develop severe illness from an adenovirus infection.
