A brazil nut allergy is an adverse reaction by the body’s immune system to brazil nuts. This is known to cause a more severe anaphylactic reaction in patients than many other nut allergies. The body’s immune system produces immunoglobulin E (IgE) and histamine in response to contact with the allergen. The symptoms generally faced by patients are anaphylactic shock, asthma, abdominal symptoms, eczema or headaches. Preliminary symptoms like watery, itchy eyes and runny nose can be treated with over the counter antihistamines.
