Fungal cultures are microbiology laboratory test which is helpful in detecting the presence of fungi in the specimens taken from the environment, animals, and patients. Optimal conditions are used by the laboratory to identify and grow any fungus present in the specimen while attempting to identify or eliminate contaminants. The fungal culture test is performed on bronchial washing sample to measure the fungal growth level in the bronchial washings. The test is performed to confirm the presence of fungal infection of the lung. The test is also performed during and after the treatment of the immunosuppressive condition and fungal infection of the lung.
