MRI refers to Magnetic Resonance Imaging and helps to take detailed images inside the body. A fetal MRI scan provides additional information of your baby inside the mother’s womb. During the MRI scan, the pictures are taken through various angles and the computer processes these pictures to deliver a detailed image/picture comprising the baby’s parts. In some clinics, you can also request the baby’s movements to be captured directly through the computer’s screen and record it in a compact disk (CD). Unlike X-rays, MRI uses the strong magnetic field technology as well as radio waves to capture the images/pictures.
The fetal MRI scan needs to be taken during the first trimester of the pregnancy because the diagnostics accuracy is lesser during that time.
