About Absolute Eosinophil Count Test

Eosinophil is a type of white blood cell, and this test measures the amount of eosinophils in the blood of a person. It is made in the bone marrow and travels to different tissues. It is vital for the immune system of a person as it fights off infections and also boosts inflammation which will help the person fight off a disease.

A normal test value is generally less than 500 cells per microlitre (cells/mcL), although this number can be different for different laboratories. It is important to consult your doctor about this and refer to the test results carefully. An abnormal level of eosinophils is usually discovered in a routine complete blood count test, after which an absolute count test is ordered.
