A Giemsa Stain procedure is a test that that is carried out on a blood sample, usually to detect illnesses such as Malaria and H.Pylori Infection as well as presence of few other parasites. Giemsa is a dye comprising of methylene blue-eosin and methylene blue that colorizes tissues or cells, to identify aberrations such as translocations and rearrangements. The test is carried out by differentiating nuclear morphology of platelets, RBCs, WBCs, and parasites .The stained elements usually appear pink, purple or blue. For example, it specifically stains human cells purple and bacterial cells red or pink. Although time consuming, the giemsa stain test an inexpensive and affordable blood test.
