Albuminuria describes the existence of albumin in the urine. Albuminuria reflects a kidney problem that causes the passage of these proteins in the urine while they should normally remain in the blood. Albumin can be demonstrated by using a urine strip called 24-hrs-urine-albumin Test, which uses a colors part that reacts to the presence of proteins. This screening method may be supplemented, if necessary by further urine tests. In this case, the search for albumin in the urine is done in the laboratory, on a sample of the first-morning urination, then, if necessary, on a collection of urine carried out for 24 hours.
There is no restriction on the food you eat, so take the normal diet. In case any patient is preparing for the test, the first thing he should do is tell his doctor about underlying treatment and medicines. Severe lesions on the kidney include large amounts of albumin in the urine. It is usually a process that takes several years, such as in patients with diabetes. If you are allergic to any chemical or medicine, your doctor and technician should know this. The search for albumin in the urine is carried out punctually when the doctor suspects various pathologies such as pancreatitis, arterial hypertension or diabetes; or regularly, in the follow-up of diabetes for example.
The 24-hrs-urine-albumin Test confirms or negates the presence of a large amount of protein in the urine found. The condition is known as proteinuria. The test also gives idea about kidney function, disease, or damage. A high level of albumin in the urine is a sign of kidney damage. Urine collection over a 24 hour period of time evaluates the level of various components in it.
Proteinuria over 24 hours: This technique requires the accurate collection of all the urine of the day. For the collection of the sample, it is necessary to eliminate the urine of the first morning in the toilets than to collect all the urine in a plastic bottle, until the first urination the next morning. Write down the date and time of the first urine in the jar. Keep the jars refrigerated and then on day 2 carry them all to the lab.
