Ayurvedic Remedies To Treat Lymphoma!

In simple words, lymphoma is cancer of the lymphatic system. It begins in the infection-fighting cells of the body called the lymphocytes. Lymphocytes can be found in lymph nodes, spleen, thymus gland in the neck, bone marrow and other parts of our bodies.

Lymphoma means that the lymphocytes change and divide recklessly. There are two main types of lymphoma-

  1. Non-Hodgkin: The most common type of lymphoma.
  2. Hodgkin

Non-Hodgkin and Hodgkin lymphoma each affect a different kind of lymphocyte or white blood cell.

There is a different treatment modality for both these different types of lymphomas as the affected cells are different and so is their rate of growth. Even though lymphatic cancer is very common, it’s easily treatable. Timely diagnosis and proper treatment off course are very important. Its causes can be diverse like genetics, a weak immune system, diseases like celiac, lupus or rheumatoid arthritis, infections with certain viruses, age over 60 and gender- men are more prone to getting lymphomas.

Symptoms and warning signs

  1. Swollen glands in the neck, armpit, or groin
  2. Persistent cough
  3. Night sweats
  4. Weight loss
  5. Shortness of breath
  6. Fever
  7. Stomach pain
  8. Fatigue
  9. Itching

Treatment

The treatment depends on the kind of lymphoma one has and how far the cancer has spread. The treatments for non-Hodgkin lymphoma are-

  1. Chemotherapy which uses certain drugs to destroy cancer cells.
  2. Radiation therapy uses high-energy rays to kill cancer cells.
  3. Immunotherapy uses the body's own immune system to kill cancer cells.

The common treatments for Hodgkin lymphoma are:

  1. Chemotherapy
  2. Radiation therapy

Traditional medicine systems like Acupressure and Ayurveda are used as complementary systems to bring relief from the cancer.

  1. Cupressure is used to drain the lymph nodes affected with lymphoma.
  2. Triphala, a common Ayurvedic remedy is being investigated to understand its killing effects on lymphoma cells in the body. It has also been seen to ‘regress’ tumours in animal studies. Hence, Triphala is a potent anti-cancer Ayurvedic drug.

Ayurvedic herbal drugs are used to treat the lymphatic system of the patient, so that it produces normal cells. Ayurvedic Panch tikta grut can pacify the lymphatic system whereas other herbs enhance the immune system and reduce inflammation.

Quick Tips

  1. Green tea has also been shown to have phytonutrients called catechins, which have anticancer properties.
  2. Curcumin extracted from turmeric is also able to kill human lymphoma cells. It also makes chemotherapy and radiotherapy work better against the cancer while protecting normal cells.
  3. Mistletoe extract is also a powerful immune-modulator.
  4. Carrots and broccoli also show a number of benefits when included in the diet of someone suffering from cancer.
  5. Foods rich in beta carotene which means vegetables and fruits of different colours have high antioxidant content which supports healing.
  6. Chyawan prash is very useful during chemotherapy. One must avoid Sugar.

Psoriasis is a noncontagious skin condition that produces plaques of thickened, scaling skin. The dry scales are thought to result from the rapid proliferation of skin cells triggered by the release of inflammatory chemicals from abnormal blood lymphocytes. Psoriasis commonly affects the skin of the elbows, knees, and scalp. Some people have such mild psoriasis that they may not even suspect that they have a medical skin condition. Others have very severe psoriasis involving their entire body. Psoriasis is an incurable, long-term (chronic) skin condition. It has a variable course, periodically improving and worsening. It is not unusual for psoriasis to spontaneously clear for years and stay in remission. Many people note a worsening of their symptoms in the colder winter months.

causes psoriasis?

The exact cause remains unknown. There may be a combination of factors, including genetic predisposition and environmental factors. It is common for psoriasis to be found in members of the same family. Defects in the immune system are thought to play a major role. Despite research over the past 30 years looking at many triggers, the

Amblyopia - How It Can Be Managed?

Amblyopia - How It Can Be Managed?

Lazy eye or amblyopia is a childhood disorder wherein the child’s vision does not develop properly, especially in one of the eyes. If the condition is not treated at the very onset, it can lead to impaired vision in the concerned eye. As the child grows up, the brain will fail to pick up images from that eye.

Causes:

This disorder is known to start when one eye has better vision than the other eye. An example would be if one of the eyes is affected by farsightedness (unable to see objects at a closer range) and the other is normal. In the case of a child, when the brain receives images from both the eyes, it will ignore the faulty eye’s image. When this situation repeats itself over months or years, it might lead to absolute deterioration of vision in the faulty eye.

Strabismus is another cause of amblyopia wherein there is a significant misalignment in the eye; one of the eyes may turn outward or inward. This does not allow the eye to focus properly on an object, thus leading to double vision. The brain again ignores the image from the faulty eye that causes vision deterioration in that eye.

Treatment:

The treatment begins by correcting problems in the affected eye and then putting a patch on the normal eye. Initially, the child may have difficulties adjusting to this new method, but bear in mind that it is absolutely necessary to wear the patch. The entire treatment process may range over a few weeks to even months. Regular visit to the doctor is of utmost importance.

In mild cases, an eye drop called ‘atropine’ may be prescribed for the good eye. The child may also require glasses to improve focus. In case of cataracts, a surgery might be needed to treat it.

The treatment should begin early, as it can get difficult to treat the condition once the child crosses his/her 7-8 year mark.

Know About HIV/AIDS!

HIV/AIDS

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) has been conclusively known to be the causative agent for AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) which is a major killer disease of the modern times affecting almost 50 million people around the world.

The virus that causes ‘ Aids’ – HIV belongs to a family of viruses known as retroviruses. HIV looks like a rolled up porcupine. It contains two snakes like single strands of RNA along with reverse transcripts firmly wrapped up in a core, giving HIV its characteristic appearance.

On entering the white blood cells known as CD 4 cells, HIV produces its own DNA and sees to it that this gets inserted into the DNA of the host cell. The viral DNA has enough power and information to direct the destiny of the cell. It can force the cell to manufacture several new copies of HIV. However due to certain trigger and regulatory mechanisms, the viral DNA lies dormant in the host cell for several years before it begins to do the damage.

It has been known that CD4 lymphocytes are mainly affected by the HIV when these classes of lymphocytes are destroyed. It produces an immunological imbalance in the body and weakens the resistance to several opportunistic infections, consequently leading to death. The medicines available at present produce a decrease of the viral load, but as they are immunosuppresents they can produce a deterioration of the patients’ immunity.

People infected with HIV may take 7 – 10 years to develop AIDS.

Ayurveda Management

AID/HIV in Ayurveda may be considered as Ojakshaya, meaning the loss of Vital Energy or immunity. The symptoms, Signs and Causative factors (Nidan), and the Treatment aspect has been described in many Ayurvedic Treaties like Charak Samhita, Susrutha Samhita and Ashtanga Hrudaya, Bhavprakash, Vaidya Chintamani and Chakradatta etc.

Ojas is essence of our body. Ojas is otherwise explained as ‘Bala’ (strength or immunity) and ‘Dhatusara’. Ojas is of two types namely, ‘para ojas’ and ‘Apara ojas’. The ‘ojas’ of para(excellent) type is eight drops in quantity, is located within the heart and death occurs when this get depleted. The other type ‘Apara ojas’ is also known as ‘sleshmaka ojas’, the quantity of which is described as Ardha Anjali and distributed throughout the body. When this ojas is not affected the bodily functions will be normal.

In conditions like HIV/AIDS, where loss of ojas is a prominent feature, people are found to be susceptible to various other diseases or infections.

Bleeding Gums After Scaling!
  • Though bleeding from gums after deep scaling is normal in most of the cases and subsides after 2-3 hours without any conscious efforts, there are some patients whose gums tends to bleed more and often persists for longer than 72 hours depending upon severity of inflammation.
  • Prevention: when you face similar problem kindly inform your dentist. There is absolutely nothing to worry about. Just you have to prevent the clot to get dislodged from bleeding area. You can apply pressure gauze, black tea bag and can also use alums to rinse 3-4 times at home.
  • Sometimes, those who are on blood thinner medications (aspirin) or anticoagulant therapy can also suffer with this problem. They should inform their dentist prior to undergo scaling.

Hodgkin lymphoma: Causes, Symptoms, Risk Factors and Treatment

Hodgkin lymphoma: Causes, Symptoms, Risk Factors and Treatment

Immune system in the body is also made by a system called the lymphatic system. This system fights with germ near tissue in the body and also it penetrates deep to defend the body. A certain type of cancer called hodgkin lymphoma affects the whole lymphatic system.

When Hodgkin lymphoma happens to the body the lymphocytes also known as white blood cells increase in number so excessively like a cancer growth. This increase in number causes the lymph nodes  to swell all over the body and there are many other growth all over the body due to it.

There are two types of  lymphoma called  hodgkin lymphoma and non-hodgkin lymphoma . Hodgkin lymphoma is known by another name called Hodgkin's disease.

Medical advances in diagnosis and treatment  and medicines have helped the people to recover fully from this hodgkin disease. Some who do not recover fully show promising progress.

Symptoms:

There are some Signs and symptoms of Hodgkin's lymphoma:

  • There is swelling of the lymph nodes found in the neck, armpits, groin. This swelling is painless.
  • The body will feel  tired all the time.
  •  There will be a fever.
  • There will be Night sweats while sleeping.
  • There will be weight loss.
  • There will be itching in the body.
  • When you drink alcohol, pain starts in the lymph nodes.

When to see a doctor :

When you find any symptoms in the body as given below you must rush to the doctor for this is a very serious disease. The following symptoms are:

  • There is swelling of the lymph nodes found in the neck, armpits, groin. This swelling is painless.
  • The body will feel  tired all the time.
  •  There will be a fever.
  • There will be Night sweats while sleeping.
  • There will be weight loss.
  • There will be itching in the body.
  • When you drink alcohol, pain starts in the lymph nodes.

Causes:

After much research , researchers and doctors do not know the cause of hodgkin lymphoma. There is only some information like lymphoma begins only when these defense cells, white blood cells develop any change in their DNA. This DNA tells them to increase their number and cause other problems. It feels like some infection or germs or virus have infected the white blood cell for their control.

The DNA contains the instructions for all cells and each cell has their own DNA. Infected DNA tells the WHITE BLOOD CELls  to multiply and increase in number as well as to not to die like other normal cells do. As white blood cells are the part of the immune system, it has got a defense from other healthy defensive cells in the body. This defense protects the mutated white blood cells and helps them to grow in number. When there is a high number of cells they crowd at the storage of defense cells that are at lymph nodes and make them swell and behave in healthy ways.

There are many types of hodgkin lymphoma . Each type has its own characteristics because each cell with different mutations gives different behavior. These different types have characteristics that determine the type of treatment should be given.

The most common nowadays is the Classical Hodgkin's lymphoma. People who suffer from this on analyzing their nodes researchers find out that this type of lymphoma have very large white blood cells in their nodes called Reed-Sternberg cells. There are Subtypes of this  classical Hodgkin's lymphoma. Their names are :

  • Nodular sclerosis- Hodgkin's lymphoma
  • Mixed cellularity- Hodgkin's lymphoma
  • Lymphocyte-depleted Hodgkin's lymphoma
  • Lymphocyte-rich Hodgkin's lymphoma

Nodular lymphocyte-predominant Hodgkin's lymphoma is the rare type of Hodgkin lymphoma. In this lymphoma white blood cells look like popcorn and white blood cells are called popcorn cells in this lymphoma due to their appearance. This is usually at an early stage for a long time and easily diagnosed. This also requires less intensive  treatment.

Risk factors:

There are some factors which can trigger the occurrence of Hodgkin lymphoma. Such factor are:

  • Your age:  Hodgkin's lymphoma always occurs to people who are aged 20 to 30 years or people at 60 years.
  • A family chart of lymphoma: if your family members had Hodgkin's lymphoma, your coming generation may have this lymphoma at their 60 years. So we should check it at the early years of our child or relative.
  • Being male: females are protected against this lymphoma somehow but male are not because they are more likely to have lymphoma.
  • Past Epstein-Barr infection:epstein-barr virus  causes people to have illnesses such as infectious mononucleosis. People who have suffered from this virus are more likely to have hodgkin lymphoma than people who do have epstein-barr virus infections.
  • HIV infection: these  patients have a failed immune system, which increases the risk of Hodgkin's lymphoma.

Treatment:

People with Hodgkin lymphoma are given chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or when needed bone marrow transplant. There are many drugs which are given to control the birth rate of lymphocytes.

Conclusion:

Hodgkin lymphoma is rare but people are there who suffer from this. Treatment can cause them to have full recovery. But people can avoid it by having many fruits which are able to prevent cancer. For more information please visit the doctor.
