Ofloxacin is a popular antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections. This includes conditions like pneumonia, cellulitis and plague. Another use of Ofloxacin is to detect multi-drug resistant strains of Tuberculosis. AFB-MTb Ofloxacin antibiogram (‘Acid Fast Bacilli- Multi-drug resistant Tuberculosis’) is the test specifically used to detect drug resistant Tuberculosis in samples of tissue. The test is performed on infected tissue specimens to measure the levels of Ofloxacin sensitivity. MTb is a form of Tuberculosis that is resistant to the most powerful drugs available on the market. Hence, timely detection of this strain becomes crucial.
You do not need to specially prepare for the AFB-Mtb Ofloxacin antibiogram. You do however; need to notify your physician of your current prescription medication details, your medical history – complete with previous illnesses and underlying medical conditions, your specific allergies and any other information deemed relevant by your physician.
Certain forms of aggressive Tuberculosis strains are completely resistant to popular drugs like Isoniazid and Rifampin. The Mtb is actively grown in a protected environment and is isolated in sealed containers for further testing. The result is usually determined in a few weeks, depending on the procedural method used.
