Allergy test for green pepper is done through skin testing method. It is used to determine whether a person is allergic to green pepper or not. This is a very rare type of allergy. Infact, consumption of green pepper leads to hives, blotches and redness in the skin and in certain extreme cases, anaphylaxis. Now, some labs offer even blood testing method to measure IgE level and confirm allergy to green pepper.
No special preparation is required for the blood test method. No fasting is required. The patient preferably should wear half sleeves t-shirt or loose fitted clothes. For skin test, the person has to avoid certain medicines which might hinder the result. This method is more effective and reliable.
The test determine if the person is allergic or not. If allergy is detected the physician then makes a treatment plan to suit the needs of the patient. The person is usually told to avoid green pepper and be careful while eating out. Also medication is suggested in case of accidental exposure and epinephrine in case reaction is severe.
Blood test can be done anywhere. The labs usually now send the attendants home to collect the sample. An elastic band is tied on the arm and needle is inserted and blood drawn. Skin testing can only be done in doctor's office under his supervision. Small area in forearm or upper back is selected and serum of green pepper is scratched here. Reaction is noted within 15 mins. In case of any complexity doctor injects medicine to stop the allergen from working.
