This test is also known as Allergy Paprika Enzyme Assay. The Allergy Paprika test is a blood test which measures the level of IgE (Immunoglobulin E) antibodies in the blood. IgE plays a crucial role in type I hypersensitivity and also in responses to allergens. Paprika allergy symptoms are usually mild, however, severe allergies can lead to a life-threatening condition called anaphylaxis. In this condition, the airways constricted and may cause acute breathing problems. Some of the common paprika allergy symptoms include wheezing, dizziness, stomach cramps, swelling of the throat, hives or flushed red skin.

A blood sample from your arm is required. It is recommended that you wear a sleeveless or short-sleeved shirt or a full-sleeved shirt with sleeves rolled up to enable easy withdrawal of blood. No specific preparation is needed for the Allergy Paprika Enzyme Assay. There are no dietary restrictions that you have to follow before the test. Certain medications that you are currently taking may affect the test results. So, make sure to inform your doctor regarding all the medications, vitamins, herbs and supplements you are taking. In case the blood withdrawn is to be used for further tests, your doctor will inform you the necessary preparations in prior.

This test measures level of IgE antibodies which is used for the diagnosis of an allergic disease. It is also used to determine the allergens responsible for eliciting certain symptoms. The test results are not affected by factors such as gender, race or age group.

The Allergy Paprika Enzyme Assay is performed using the Enzyme Assay method on the blood sample. About 0.2ml serum is required for this test. The blood sample will be obtained directly from your arm. The insertion site is prepared for the withdrawal of blood. An elastic band is wrapped around your arm to make the veins swell with blood. The site to be injected is cleansed with antiseptic. The needle is inserted into the vein and a tube attached to the needle is then filled up with blood. A red-top tube or gel-barrier tube is used as a container for the blood sample. A gauze pad or cotton ball is placed over the punctured area as the needle is removed. The sample is transferred to the laboratory for further examination.
