Allergen, Individual-Occupational Silk Test

If the substances found in the place where we work causes the swelling and narrowing down of airways of the lungs. This type of lung disorder is termed as occupational asthma. The test which is carried out to detect the disorder of occupational asthma caused by occupational silk allergen is termed as the allergen, individual occupational silk test. To diagnose occupational asthma by this test is considered to be same if compared to the diagnosis of other types of asthma. This test comprises lung function tests and allergen skin prick test.

Allergen, individual occupational silktest is characterized and carried out by four tests i.e. lung function test, allergen skin prick test, specific IgE measurement with occupational, exposure-specific allergen (silk) and occupational inhalation test. Before going through this test, we have to wear loose clothes, not to smoke for at least 24 hours before the test, avoid to do any vigorous exercise for at least half an hour before the test, not to eat large meal 2 hours before the test, not to drink alcohol during the test and silk allergen and allergen reactions are analysed by doctor before the test.

This test is the useful due to following reasons.
• For detecting whether the person suffers from occupational asthma caused due to occupational silk.
• For ensuring the effective functioning of lungs.
• For ensuring a good breathing system.

In Allergen, individual occupational silk test, spirometer is used to check how fast we blow air out. The pressures in the lungs can be measured by using equipment called body plethysmography. It is carried out by breathing in and out the harmless gas. Silk allergen is extracted from air filters for measurement of specific IgE or IgG. In this test, the effects on lungs if we breathe occupational silk, are studied by using the same machine called spirometer.
