Allergy Tomato enzyme Assay aka Allergy Tomato is performed on a sample of blood to measure the level of IgE Antibodies in the blood. It is performed to confirm if the patient is allergic to tomato during the treatment and after the treatment of the Tomato Allergy test. The Allergy Tomato causes skin rash, eczema, hives, itching sensation in throat, sneezing, or runny nose. Also, abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, swelling of face etc. if it is a bit severe. Very rarely it may cause anaphylaxis.
No special, need to remember preparation is required as such before the test. The doctor or the pathologist will let you know if there are any exceptions. The patients are expected to wear the top/shirt which gives easy access to your hands as it being a blood test.
This test as mentioned earlier, checks if the patient is suffering from tomato allergy. If the value is more than 100 kU/l then the patient is NOT allergic to tomato. (The value applies to all the age groups).
About 1-2 ml of blood is drawn out from the patient directly. An alcohol pad is used to clean the skin. A needle is the injected through the part of the rinsed skin into your vein; preferably the one that can be seen through the skin. The blood is dragged out from the needle by a nozzle, saved in a red-top or gel-barrier tube and sealed with the patient’s name. The sample is then sent to the lab and applies the Enzyme Assay method on the blood sample which detects allergen specific IgE in the blood sample.
