In normal life antibodies help fight the allergen or foreign particles attacking a human body but in some cases these antibodies fight the good cells and cause havoc in the life of the human. One such antibody is Anti Jo 1, it's fights cytoplasmic protein histidyl tRNA synthetase. The test is done to find if these antibody is being produced as it can lead to many diseases starting usually with muscle weakness.
No special preparation is required for this test. The agent can come home to collect a blood sample or urine sample. Prefer wearing loose fit clothes or short sleeves if blood sample is to be given. In case of urine sample one only requires a washroom and the container is also provided by the lab agent or technician. Also one needs to inform the agent if you are latex intolerant or not and on any medications. As certain medications can increase blood flow or render the effectively of test useless.
If the result is found positive the doctor can order further tests which confirm diseases like polymyositis syndrome, myositis, interstitial lung disease, Raynaud's phenomenon, arthritis. This test is also used to check whether the treatment prescribed for patients is working or not. The condition of patient is improving or worsening.
The technician will call and come to collect the sample or the patient can go to the clinic to give the sample. In case of blood sample, a tourniquet is tied on the forearm for effective result. The vein is then injected and blood is taken. After withdrawal of blood the area is cleaned with antiseptic The patient is given cotton swab to cover the punctured spot and told to keep the arm upright for 2-3 mins. In case of urine sample the patient is handed a container for depositing the same.
