Blood Sugar With Urine Sugar Test

A human body’s sugar can be measured either through the blood which is called the blood sugar test or through urine which is called the urine sugar test.

When a person is aged 45 or older or when a person of any age has risk factors having following symptoms :
Increased thirst
frequent urination
Fatigue
Blurred vision
Slow-healing wounds or infections
Sweating
Hunger
Trembling
Anxiety
Confusion
Blurred vision
, the doctors may ask for sugar test of your body. Excess or deficiency of sugar in the body may cause diabetes. These test helps to identify and diagnose it.

At least a day before the test, the patient should consult to their doctor regarding the medicine they consume. For Fasting Blood Sugar test, you should not eat for at least 8 hours before test. For Random Blood Glucose test, the person need to eat meal at least two hours before the test. It is preferable to wear half-sleeved or sleeveless clothes for blood test and to wear easily removable bottom wear for the urine test. Collect sample bottle from your doctor to collect the urine on the day of test.

The blood glucose test may be used to:
Detect high blood glucose (hyperglycemia) and low blood glucose (hypoglycemia)
Screen for diabetes in people who are at risk before but there may be no early signs or symptoms of diabetes. Thus, treatment could be initiated before the condition worsens or complications arise.
Help monitor and diagnose diabetes and type of diabetes.
Also, helps to diagnose problem persisting due to diabetes.

Blood Sugar test :
Lab technicians will check for visible vein in the bottom part of inner side of your hand near the elbow.
They will clean your skin with an antiseptic. An elastic band is tied around the upper arm and you will be asked to make a fist and hold it . A needle is inserted into the vein and blood is withdrawn and collected in a syringe or vial. Right after this, the elastic band is removed and then needle is removed. The patient can relax his fist after this. The pricked area is covered with cotton or a bandage to stop the bleeding.

Urine Sugar Test:
Clean the genital area with water and towel. Allow little amount of urine to flow out of the urinary tract and then place bottle under the urine flow. Let at least half of the bottle to be filled. Then neatly close the bottle with cap and clean outer side of the bottle for hygiene purpose. Take special care that urine is not contaminated with any other thing. Submit the bottle at lab the sample collection counter or where the Lab technician will instruct.
