Calcium, Urine Test

Calcium, Urine Test

The “Calcium in Urine” test checks the amount of calcium that is passed away from the body into the urine. The test is a 24 – hour long procedure. Calcium plays a crucial role in the body. It facilitates the growth and development of muscles, bones and teeth. Calcium levels in the body are controlled through well planned mechanisms. A urine calcium test detects the presence of kidney stones due to an extra amount of calcium in the body. It also checks the absorption power of intestinal tubes. Allied problems that lead to the loss of calcium from the bones are checked. Issues with the parathyroid glands get highlighted through a urine calcium test.

You need to control your diet for a couple of days before the test day. Be careful about the diet because it won’t be a regular one. A diet that influences the calcium levels in your body (high or low) is instructed. Follow it carefully because the results of your test depend on it. Usually, the doctor or the lab suggest that the diet should be followed for several days before the test. It helps in obtaining more accurate and more precise results.

The test is risk free and there are no chances for any kind of problems to occur. The sample is tested for checking the levels of calcium in the urine. It helps in revealing the following results:
• High concentration of calcium:
1. Cancer
2. Hyperparathyroidism
3. Paget’s Disease
4. Sarcoidosis or
5. Idiopathic Familial Hypocalciuric Hypercalcemia
• Low concentration of calcium:
1. Kidney stones or other problems
2. Hypoparathyroidism
3. Inadequate supply of Vitamin D
4. Malnutrition
5. Might indicate a set of other issues like alcoholism, pancreatitis or celiac disease.

The urine produced within a specific 24 hour period is collected. This collected urine forms the sample which is tested to measure the calcium levels.
• Your first urine for the session need not be collected but mark the time to track the initiation of your 24 hour period.
• Collect every urine expelled after this in a container provided by the doctor/lab. DO NOT touch the insides of the container with your fingers.
• Add the last urine of the day into the container and record the time. Refrigerate the collected sample.
• Note that the container should only consist of urine and not any other foreign materials.

Arthritis is frequently accompanied by joint pain. Joint pain is referred to as arthralgia. When four or more joints are involved, the arthritis is referred to as polyarthritis. When two or three joints are involved, it is referred to as oligoarthritis. When only a single joint is involved, it is referred to as monoarthritis.

Cause of arthritis

It is difficult to narrow down a single cause for it, but a combination of reasons may trigger this disease.

Know The Ayurvedic Approach To Reversing Diabetes!!

Glucose is the primary ingredient within the body which is turned into an energy source. This is what we use when we move, walk or make the slightest movements. To metabolize glucose into energy, your body needs insulin, which is a hormone produced within the pancreas. However, if the body doesn't react to the insulin or the pancreas is unable to produce enough, glucose cannot be converted into energy and thus results in type 2 diabetes.

Symptoms of type 2 diabetes

  1. Sudden or gradual weight loss despite increased hunger - Many people complain that they feel hungry and eat more, but despite this, tend to lose weight. This occurs as the body cannot metabolize glucose and uses energy reserves from fat or muscles leading to weight loss.
  2. Frequent infections and slow healing - If you are afflicted with Type 2 diabetes, then it might affect your immune system and you may be prone to infections. Also, any cuts or bruises on your body will take much longer to heal than normal.
  3. Irritability and fatigue - Another common symptom of type 2 diabetes along with the other symptoms mentioned here is quick irritability and fatigue. This is because most of the body is deprived of sugar and thus lacks the energy needed to function normally.
  4. Constant thirst and increased urination - If you feel constantly thirsty despite drinking ample water and urinating frequently, this may be a tell tale sign of type 2 diabetes.
  5. Skin darkening in folds and creases of the body - Also known as acanthosis nigricans; this is a darkening of the skin where it also becomes velvety to the touch. It usually develops in the folds on skin in areas such as the neck and armpits and is a direct result of insulin resistance.

Causes of Type 2 diabetes

Some of the most common causes of Type 2 diabetes could be:

  1. Being overweight
  2. Lack of physical activity
  3. Genetic predisposition or family history
  4. If you are more than 45 years of age
  5. Hormonal problems such as Polycystic ovarian syndrome

Reverse Diabetes

There three major factors that can help you prevent and reverse pre- and type II diabetes: proper diet and appropriate nutritional and herbal supplementation, exercise, and weight management.

  1. Diet: Proper diet is critical for both preventing and treating pre-and type II diabetes. One of the most important dietary precautions you can take is to eliminate all refined sugars and sugar products from your diet. Also reduce or eliminate your intake of alcohol and caffeine; avoid fast, processed "junk" foods and soda, altogether; and eat protein snacks between meals.
  2. Eating According to the Glycemic Index: Another important dietary tip is eat meals that contains an abundance of low-glycemic (low-sugar) foods. By doing so you can significantly improve your body's ability to maintain low insulin and blood sugar levels. Low-glycemic foods include raw, organic leafy green vegetables, fruits that contain pits, sweet potatoes, yams, organic whole-grain breads and cereals, most legumes and nuts, skim and buttermilk, poultry, white fish, shellfish, and lean cuts of beef and veal.
  3. Nutritional and Herbal Supplements: In addition to a healthy diet, many people at risk for or who already have pre- or type II diabetes will also benefit from various nutritional and herbal supplements.
  4. Exercise: Regular exercise should be part of every diabetic's daily routine. Exercise in combination with a weight loss program has been proven to reduce the odds of developing diabetes by 58 percent among people who are at risk for the disease. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult with the doctor for diabetes ayurvedic treatment.

Hairfall - Ayurvedic Remedies For It!

Seeing multiple strands of your hair leave your scalp with shampoo, on the floor while combing or on clothes later on is terrible. It gives a feeling of going bald if such a situation continues unabated, and that feeling is disturbing.

Hair fall has become a major problem for many nowadays. Often lack of proper care and knowledge about hair care products causes damage to hair and eventually hair fall. According to Ayurveda, hair fall is associated with body type that varies from person to person and also the stability of mind-body structure. Hair is considered as a byproduct of bone formation, as stated by Ayurveda. The tissues which are responsible for the development of bones are also responsible for hair growth.

Here are some ways through which Ayurveda addresses the problem of hair fall:

1. Dietary modifications: It is important to identify the lifestyle habits that cause hair fall problems. Consumption of excessive alcohol, meat, coffee, tea and smoking are some of these habits. Hair fall can also be aggravated by indulging in intake of too much greasy, spicy, oily, sour, fried and acidic foods.

Here are some ways suggested by Ayurveda to beat hair fall:

  • Hair growth can be stimulated by drinking fresh juices of pomegranate, carrot, spinach and kokam.
  • Sesame seeds promote hair growth as they are rich in magnesium and calcium.
  • Cow's Ghee is a trusted remedy to resolve all scalp problems.
  • Green vegetables and fruits are rich in fiber and hence help in preventing hair fall.
  • To make the roots of hair strong, foods rich in vitamin C, vitamin B-complex, sulphur and zinc must be consumed, which are found in whole grains, soybeans, buttermilk, nuts and milk.

2. Ayurvedic herbs and medicated oil: bhringaraja, brahmi, amla, neem, ritha and ashwagandha are some ayurvedic herbs rich in essential nutrients that help in reducing stress and promoting hair growth. Different types of oils including coconut oil, brahmi oil, amla oil or mustard oil are useful in hair fall.

3. Yoga and meditation: Inverted asanas help in stimulating the blood flow to the head. Additionally, practicing deep breathing exercises to control anxiety, stress and keep the mind balanced is also advisable. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an Ayurveda.
