The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is responsible for jaw movements and efficiency of stomatognathic functions. The stomatognathic system in an anatomic system comprising of the teeth, jaws and associated soft tissues. The temporomandibular joint is one of the most demanded and used joints in the body consisting of skeletal and soft tissue structures. The bony structure consists of the condylar head, glenoid fossa and articular eminence of the temporal bone. The soft tissues consist of the chewing muscles, joint ligaments, articular disc and capsule articular. Temporomandibular disorders affect the stomatognathic system as a whole and the tolerance capacity of each tolerance capacity of each individual is different. These disorders are caused due to multifactorial reasons of environmental, psychological and behavioral factors. Other factors causing this disorder include local trauma. Signs and symptoms of TMJ disorder include pain in the lower jaw while talking, chewing and yawning. The jaw pain can also lead to headaches, dizziness and ear pain. The face and mouth may swell on the affected side.
There are no special arrangements required for this test. There are several items that you need to remove before your exam, including Jewelry, including earrings, Dentures or other removable dental appliances, Hairpins, Eyeglasses, Hearing Aids and any other metal objects.

You will be told to sit on a chair or stand depending on the type of the scanner machine. You will be told to sit or stand still for the duration of the test The test doesn’t take much time approximately 30 to 60 seconds A device will briefly rotate around your head creating an accurate representation of your jaw and surrounding area Later the scanner will collect the information and test will be over.
