CD1 a is a gene in the body. It is gene which acts as a marker for many diseases. It is the basic marker for langerhans cell and immature T cells, so whenever they need to be identified this test is done.
There are two ways in which sample is collected for this one is blood sample and the pher is tissue sample. For blood test no special preparation is needed, it can be collected from even the patient's home and no fasting is required. The only thing required is disclosure of any medication the patient is taking to the technician, so that he can decide if it can affect the result. The tissue sample can only be collected in a clinic which is sterile. There is slight discomfort and invasiveness.
In Case the result is positive, then basis of patient's previous medical history it can determine whether he is suffering from one of the following diseases. The list includes langerhans cell histiocytosis, mycosis fungoides, T-cutaneous lymphoid hyperplasia, lymphomatoid papulosis and parapsoriasis. Since the test is used for life threatening diseases it takes 5-7 days for the result to be delivered. The doctor can then prescribe proper treatment and in case of post op check, determine whether the surgery was successful or not.
Blood sample An elastic band is tied on the forearm. The vein is identified and cleaned with antiseptic and then needle is inserted to collect the blood. After this the patient is given a cotton swab to clean the area. Tissue sample Firstly the area is identified for collection of sample. Then there are two ways to collect it, either through biopsy or after an operation. In biopsy the area selected is injected and fluid or serum or cells are collected. It is a more painful than blood sample and thus require proper professional care.
