B-lymphocyte antigen CD20 or CD20 is an activated glycosylated phosphoprotein expressed on the surface of all B-cells beginning at the pro-B phase (CD45R+, CD117+) and progressively increasing in concentration until maturity. In humans CD20 is encoded by the MS4A1 gene. This gene encodes a member of the membrane-spanning 4A gene family. Members of this nascent protein family are characterized by common structural features and similar intron/exon splice boundaries and display unique expression patterns among hematopoietic cells and nonlymphoid tissues. This gene encodes a B-lymphocyte surface molecule that plays a role in the development and differentiation of B-cells into plasma cells. This family member is localized to 11q12, among a cluster of family members. Alternative splicing of this gene results in two transcript variants that encode the same protein
Your doctor may ask you to have this test at a certain time of day. The timing is important. Your doctor may also ask you to: This Test requires a blood sample No need to disturb your normal diet Inform your doctor if you are on any medications or have any underlying medical conditions or allergies before undergoing Milk allergy. It’s better not to eat past hour to get best results. Your doctor depending on your condition will give specific instructions.
Evaluation of CD20 deficiency in patients with a suspected CD20 deficiency (humoral immunodeficiency) Confirming complete absence of B cells in suspected primary humoral immunodeficiencies using both CD19 and CD20 markers Assessing therapeutic B-cell depletion quantitatively (absolute counts of cells/mcL) in any clinical context, including malignancies, autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, and membranous glomerulonephritis among others, and treatment or prevention of acute humoral rejection in positive cross match renal transplant recipients
Please follow the instructions given by the lab in charge An alcohol pad is used to clean the skin. A needle is then injected through the part of rinsed skin into to your vein specifically in the one that can be seen from the skin. The blood is dragged out from the needle by a nozzle, saved in a vessel and sealed with your name. This sample is carried to the research laboratory for examination. The Specimen removed from your veins is tested in the lab and results sent to the doctor.
