Chyluria, aka chylous urine, is a disease wherein the presence of chyle in the urine stream causes urine appearing milky white. This condition usually takes place due to parasitic infections. It is majorly caused by filariasis which is caused by the parasite Wuchereria Bancrofti. If not treated on time, this disease also causes blood to mix with urine which further spreads the infection in the entire body.It can also lead to malnutrition and fat-soluble vitamin deficiency. This test therefore examines the severity of the disease which later guides the doctors to plan other treatments for your disease. It is usually done once in three months, though it might vary.
No additional preparations are required for the test. You should take a good sleep so that your body is under regular functioning when the test sample is given. Wash your hands with soap and water. Make sure that you keep your excretory pathway clean by washing it 3 times a day. It is also advised to not consume any medications before collecting the urine samples. You should pre-inform your doctor about any medications that you might be taking so that the instructions can be given specifically. Always follow your doctor’s advice for obtaining accurate results of your medical tests.
This test is useful in the diagnosis of injury or obstruction of the lymph chylous system, for example filariasis. It detects the level of severity of the disease. It is an important test to identify the further tests that might be required to find out any specific details about the ailing person. It also detects the exact parasite that has caused the disease and provides the doctor with the information regarding other infections that might have been caused due to the disease causing agent.
You will be given a sterile container in which you’ll be told to collect your urine sample. Depending upon your condition, the doctor will advise you to collect the sample either in the morning or at night. Do not touch the inside of the container with your hands. You will then be asked to submit the urine sample to the doctor. You should submit the sample at the earliest. Otherwise, if there is a delay, the sample should be refrigerated. This test can be done at hospitals, registered medical clinics and infirmaries. The results of the test will be generated within 1 to 2 days.
