Creatine kinase (CK) is an enzyme that is specified by the various cell types. It is also referred as creatine phosphokinase (CPK). Brain-type creatine kinase is one of the types of Creatine Kinase is also known as CK-BB which is encoded by the CKB gene. A protein will be generated by CK-B gene that consists of a homodimer of two identical brain-type CK-B subunits. CK-BB is a cytoplasmic enzyme that involved in cellular energy homeostasis. Certain fractions of the enzyme are bound to cell membranes, ATP in which the CK-BB forms tightly coupled microcompartments for in situ regeneration of ATP that has been used up. CK-BB is a homodimer in the brain and smooth muscle as well as in other tissues and cells such as neuronal cells, retina, kidney, bone, etc.
The patient should be prepared for two types tests that follow with the CK-BB (blood test and ECG). The type of test is generally decided on the condition of the patient and various other factors like the age, gender, altitude of their location, etc. For the blood test, the equipment should be neatly leaned and a proper measure of the sample extract should be maintained. For the Eco-cardiogram test, the environment and the ambiance should be cleaned prior to the test and the patient should be informed that no polluting material should be carried into the room.
This test is used to detect and verify creatine phosphokinase (CPK) levels in the blood and is used to diagnose any muscle damage in the body. This test monitor to detect health problems like heart attacks show the reasons for chest pain and neurological disorders, the death of muscular tissue, convulsions. This also gives information about the muscular dystrophy status of a patient. This test is used to diagnose several medical conditions and helps in treatment before further damage is caused.
Similar to any simple blood test, the CK-BB test is also a blood test where 5-10 ml of blood is extracted from the patient’s vein. The extracted area over the patient’s body is cleaned with alcohol or spirit with the help of clean cotton or cloth. For the ECG test, the patient is made to lay on the bed with his upper abdomen part open so that the electric plates are pressed over the patient’s chest. Prior to this, the patient’s body is made wet with the plasma material. After the ECG the patient’s body is cleaned with tissues.
