DCP-Decarboxy Prothrombin PIVKA-II Test

DCP-Decarboxy Prothrombin PIVKA-II Test

also known as: Des-gamma-carboxy Prothrombin, PIVKA-II, Protein Induced by Vitamin K Absence, DCP

DCP-Decarboxy-Prothrombin-PIVKA-II test is performed on a sample of blood to measure the level of Vitamin K and PIVKA II in the blood. It is performed to confirm vitamin K and also during the treatment and after the treatment of Vitamin K deficiency. It is also known as Vitamin K with PIVKA II test

Some patients who are exposed to animal antigens, either within the surroundings or as a part of treatment or imaging procedures, might have circulating anti-animal antibodies present. These antibodies might interfere with the assay reagents to provide unreliable results. DCP manufacturing tumors aside from hepatocellular carcinoma will show elevated DCP values. Medication containing vitamin K preparations might cause a negative bias with DCP values. Medication containing vitamin K antagonist or antibiotic might cause a positive bias with DCP values. No special preparation is needed for Vitamin K with PIVKA II test. Inform your doctor if you're on any medications or have any underlying medical conditions or allergies before undergoing Vitamin K with PIVKA II test. Your doctor looking on your condition can offer specific directions.

This test is useful for risk assessment of patients with chronic liver disease for development of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).It also acts as an aid in the monitoring of HCC patients post therapy if des-gamma-carboxy prothrombin (DCP) level was elevated prior to therapy. An elevated DCP level is associated with increased risk of recurrent HCC. 25 to 50% patients will have a result in the normal range and thus this test is not conclusive for HCC. This test can also be used to diagnose obstructive jaundice, intrahepatic cholestasis causing chronic decrease in vitamin K, and ingestion of drugs such as warfarin or wide-spectrum antibiotics The normal result for Vitamin K With Pivka Ii Blood for Vitamin K is 0.2 - 3.2 ng/ml for all genders and for All age groups. PIVKA II is < 1 microgram/ml for both genders and for All age groups.

Vitamin K with PIVKA II test is performed on a Blood sample. A small amount of blood (few millilitres) is obtained directly from you. Before drawing the blood, an alcohol pad is used to clear the skin. A needle is then injected from the cleared part to the vein which is visible from the skin. The blood is drawn from the needle by a nozzle, deposited in a container and then sealed with your name. This is taken to the research laboratory for examination. When the needle pricks your arm, a slight stinging sensation or pain is normal. A slight soreness after the blood is drawn is normal.

It is recommended that this assay be used in conjunction with imaging studies for clinical diagnosis.
