Hello. The priciples of both the tests are same. Ie they are nuclic acid based test. One looks for proviral hiv1 dna, qualitatively (hiv 1 pro viral dna) and another looks at hiv rna ,(hiv 1 rna) mostly quantitatively. Hiv 1 denotes hiv strain 1.
