च्यूइंग गम चबाने से आपके मुंह में बहुत अधिक लार बनती है।यह लार थोड़ी क्षारीय होती है। खाने के बाद यदि च्युइंग गम चबाया जाए तो आपके मुंह और गले में अम्लता को बेअसर करने में मदद मिल सकती है। इससे पाचन आसान होता है और एसिडिटी से राहत मिल सकती है।

3. अदरक का सेवन करना
अदरक मतली और खट्टे पेट जैसी समस्याओं के लिए एक सामान्य घरेलू उपचार है।इसमें एंटी इंफ्लेमटरी गुण और पाचन सुगम बनाने वाले गुण होते हैं जो रिफ्लक्स को नियेंत्रित कर सकते हैं। अदरक को पानी में उबालकर काढ़े के रूप में पी सकते हैं। इसके अलावा अपने खाने में अदरक का अधिक इस्तेमाल करें। सलाद में भी अदरक का प्रयोग करें जिससे इसके औषधीय गुणों का लाभ आपके मिल सके।

4. दूध का सेवन
अपनी प्राकृतिक क्षारीयता के कारण, दूध एक और घरेलू उपचार है जिसे अक्सर एसिडिटी के लक्षणों को कम करने के लिए लिया जाता है।एक ग्लास पानी में आधा कप ठंडा दूध मिलाकर पीने से इसके लक्षणों पर नियंत्रण पाया जा सकता है।

5. वजन नियंत्रित रखें
जीईआरडी उन वयस्कों में सबसे अधिक प्रचलित है जो अधिक वजन वाले या मोटे हैं।अधिक वजन खासकर पेट को आसपास का मोटापा पेट पर अधिक दबाव डालता है। नतीजतन, आपको पेट का एसिड एसोफैगस में वापस आने की पूरी आशंका बनी रहती है। सुनिश्चित करें कि आप स्वस्थ आहार और नियमित व्यायाम करें पका वज़न नियंत्रित रहे औऱ रिफ्लक्स की समस्या कम हो सके।

6. धूम्रपान से बचें
यदि आपको धूम्रपान छोड़ने के लिए किसी कारण की आवश्यकता है, तो रिफ्लक्स उनमें से एक है। यह रिफ्लक्स को बढ़ावा देने का ज़िम्मेदार हो सकता है।दरअसल धूम्रपान निचले एसोफेजियल स्फिंक्टर (एलईएस) को नुकसान पहुंचाता है, जो पेट के एसिड को बैक अप लेने से रोकने के लिए ज़िम्मेदार है। जब एलईएस की मांसपेशियां धूम्रपान से कमजोर हो जाती हैं, तो आपको बार-बार रिफलक्स का अनुभव हो सकता है। यही नहीं यदि आप एसिड रिफ्लक्स या जीईआरडी से लड़ रहे हैं तो सेकेंड हैंड स्मोक भी समस्या बढ़ा सकता है।

7. अपने बिस्तर के सिरहाने को ऊपर उठाएं
यदि सोते समय नियमित रूप से रिफल्कस का अनुभव होता है, तो अपने बिस्तर के पैरों के नीचे लकड़ी या सीमेंट के ब्लॉक रखें ताकि सिर का सिरा 6 से 9 इंच ऊपर उठ जाए। यदि आप अपने बिस्तर को ऊपर नहीं उठा सकते हैं, तो आप अपने शरीर को कमर से ऊपर उठाने के लिए अपने गद्दे की मोटाई बढ़ा सकते हैं। अतिरिक्त तकियों के साथ सिर्फ अपना सिर उठाना प्रभावी नहीं है।

8. बाईं करवट लेटें
खाने के बाद लेटने पर बाईं ओर करवट लें ।इससे पाचन बोहतर होता है और रिफल्क्स की संभावना कम हो जाती है।

9. भोजन के तुरंत बाद ना लेटें
खाना खाते ही लेटने की आदत छोड़ दें। खाने के बाद लेटने या बिस्तर पर जाने के बीच कम से कम तीन घंटे का अंतराल रखें।

10. खाना ठीक से चबाएं
खाना हमेशा धीरे-धीरे और अच्छी तरह चबाकर खाएं। प्रत्येक निवाले के बाद पूरा समय लेकर उसे चबाएं । एक बार पूरा निवाला चबाने और निगलने के बाद ही दूसरा निवाला उठाएं।

11. ज्यादा तेल मसाले वाला खाना ना खाएं
ऐसे खाद्य पदार्थों और पेय से बचें जो रिफ्लक्स को ट्रिगर करते हैं। सामान्य ट्रिगर्स में अल्कोहल, चॉकलेट, कैफीन, वसायुक्त खाद्य पदार्थ या पेपरमिंट शामिल हैं।

12. टाइट-फिटिंग कपड़ों से बचें
बहुत टाइट कपड़े पहनने से एसिड रिफ्लक्स की समस्या बढ़ सकती है। यह विशेष रूप से तंग बॉटम्स और बेल्ट के मामले में होता है। ये दोनों पेट पर अनावश्यक दबाव डालते हैं, जिससे आपके रिफ्लक्स का जोखिम बढ़ जाता है।अपने कपड़ों की फिचिंग ढीली रखने से आराम मिल सकता है

The vegetables which are known to cause acidity are Brussels, onions, garlic and broccoli; dairy products like cheese, milk, ice cream and whole grains can cause acidity. The reason is that these products have fibre, starch and sugar which cannot be digested easily thus causing pain in the intestines. Fruit which contains sorbitol and aerated drinks should also be avoided. Eat everything but in moderation.

- Avoid drinking before meals as the stomach acids are lost and the food cannot be digested well. Water and liquids should be had half an hour after a meal for better digestion.

- Food should be eaten slowly. Eating and drinking fast allows a lot of air to go in the stomach with the food. This, in turn, can cause stomach pain.

- Over the counter, drugs can be taken for immediate help in digestion. These medicines contain enzymes which aid in digestion. The enzyme works to dissolve the sugar that is found in many vegetable and fruit.

- Do not fill air in the stomach. Some habits like chewing gum, drinking from a straw, smoking causes the air to fill in the stomach, thereby, leading to gas.

- Artificial sweeteners such as Sorbitol should be avoided as these are difficult to digest and can easily lead to a feeling of bloating.

However, all the pains might not be due to gas and could be a sign of something serious. These could be:

- Lactose intolerance: This is the inability to digest milk and milk products. The sugar in the milk known as lactose and cannot be digested easily.

- Irritable bowel syndrome: People who suffer from pain in the lower abdomen constantly might be suffering from IBS.

- Colon cancer: If the pain lasts too long then getting a screening done is a good idea to rule out if one is suffering from colon cancer or not.

- Upper gastrointestinal disorders: If one gets belching occasionally then it is alright but constant belching might be a sign of gastrointestinal disorder in the upper tract. These could be gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), gastroparesis, or peptic ulcers.

They usually crop as a result of inflammation caused by bacteria and also due to erosion from stomach acids. What is a peptic ulcer?

Digestive juices help in digestion of food but when these digestive juices damage the membrane of the digestive tract then sore areas develop which are called as peptic ulcers. A peptic ulcer may develop inlining of the lower oesophagus, stomach or duodenum. Thus called oesophageal, gastric and duodenal ulcer respectively.

Risk factors

NSAIDs- repeated use of NSAIDs irritate the wall of the stomach thus increase the acid secretion.
Stress although is not the direct cause for the peptic ulcer but obviously makes the condition worse in patients with ulcers.
Smoking may increase the risk of ulcer formation and cases which already have the erosion then smoking aggravates the condition further.

Complications

Pain killers if taken for long irritate the wall of the stomach promoting ulcer formation.
Smoking, alcohol, stress and spicy food although don't cause ulcer formation but make the condition worse.
Diagnosis and treatment
Diagnosis

Symptomatical presentation of the case helps in indications towards peptic ulcer. To further diagnose the condition:
Ammonia breath test for h pylori would confirm the presence of the bacteria in the body. Blood or stool test can be done for ammonia but the breath test is more reliable.
Endoscopy would help in visualisation of the wall of the stomach thus confirming the diagnosis.
Barium swallow followed by x-ray would also diagnose the peptic ulcer.
Treatment

Conventional treatment includes eradication of h pylori by several antibiotics. Antacids are given to neutralise the acid produced in the stomach.
Further treatment includes inhibiting acid production by blocking the receptors for acid production. But these treatments are not permanent and peptic ulcer relapses so homeopathic treatment is far superior for the treatment of the ulcer which is permanent too.
Management

Dietary management: increasing probiotics in the diet like yogurt, coconut water would help in keeping the environment in the stomach favourable. Further adding vitamin a and c would also help.

Eating habits: should be improved. Split the meals in small regular meals rather than eating at long intervals and a lot at once. Don't stay empty stomach for long as acid secretion empty stomach would make the condition worse.
Drink enough water but not excess also.
