Maintain a healthy weight. This places less strain on your joints, leading to reduced pain and increased energy and mobility. Losing weight if needed can also help your medications work better. Some psoriatic arthritis medications are less effective in people who are overweight. Exercise regularly. Exercise can help keep your joints flexible and your muscles strong. Types of exercises that are less stressful on joints include biking, swimming, walking, yoga and tai chi. Cold compresses can help reduce swelling in the area. Cooling also helps to numb sharp pain. Apply an ice pack for up to 20 minutes, up to five times a day. Use a frozen gel pack, ice cubes in a plastic bag, or a bag of frozen peas. Wrap the cold pack in a soft towel. Do not apply a cold pack directly to skin. Heat therapy heat helps to relax tense muscles and soothe a stiff area. It can help with muscle pain and bonny pain. Use a heated gel pack, heating pad or a hot water bottle.

Lifestyle and home remedies protect your joints. Changing the way you carry out everyday tasks can make a tremendous difference in how you feel. For example, you can avoid straining your finger joints by using gadgets such as jar openers to twist the lids from jars, by lifting heavy pans or other objects with both hands, and by pushing doors open with your whole body instead of just your fingers. Maintain a healthy weight. Maintaining a healthy weight places less strain on your joints, leading to reduced pain and increased energy and mobility. Losing weight if needed can also help your medications work better. Some psoriatic arthritis medications are less effective in people who have a body mass index of 25.0 to 29.9 (overweight). The best way to increase nutrients while limiting calories is to eat more plant-based foods — fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Exercise regularly. Exercise can help keep your joints flexible and your muscles strong. Types of exercises that are less stressful on joints include biking, swimming and walking. Stop smoking. Smoking is associated with a higher risk of developing psoriasis and with more-severe symptoms of psoriasis. Limit alcohol use. Alcohol can increase your risk of psoriasis, decrease the effectiveness of your treatment and increase side effects from some medications, such as methotrexate. Pace yourself. Battling pain and inflammation can leave you feeling exhausted. In addition, some arthritis medications can cause fatigue.

Use hot and cold packs cryotherapy (ice pack) may help to reduce swelling and tenderness in affected joints. Heat may be used to relieve joint pain and ease muscle soreness. Paraffin baths tend to be soothing for the hands and feet. Splinting may be of benefit to prevent deformity. Move to protect your joints open doors with your body instead of your fingers. Lift heavy objects with both hands. Use jar openers to open lids. Frist consult with rheumatologist immediately if undiagnosed psoriatic arthritis is suspected.

I am psoriatic arthritis patient with back pain and si joint pains in addition to other joint pains. I use hcqs 200 mg for psa. Spine surgeon prescribed duloxetine 20 mg one in morning & one in the evening for my back pain. These tablets also reduce other joint pains and also helps in controlling my inflammation. But my problem is because of this duloxetine capsules my sleep has become very much disturbed and I am unable to fall asleep when I wake up in the night. I feel active all the time and suffering with racing thoughts/brain fogg. I am not able to calm my mind by all means. To counter this I added mythy cobalamin 750 mcg and 1/2 of clonotril - .25 mg. But still then I get up between 3 to 4 am and unable to fall asleep. Totally I am getting a sleep of about 4.5 hours to 5 hours a day. Increasing clonotril dose causing me irritation in the stiff muscles surrounding the joints. I tried magnesium supplement which worked nicely but it increased my scalp psoriasis rapidly. I tried all forms of magnesium but same results. Melatonin helped a bit but it causing tiredness during entire day. Could you please suggest any medicine to calm down my thoughts and to get a restful sleep? Thank you.

Your creatinine level is normal so you can take oral biologics. If you are planning to take injection biologics then more tests will be required which will be told by your dermatologist. You will need to keep checking your creatinine level when you are on biologics.

First get your psoriasis work up done from nearby dermatologist. All routine blood investigation should be done and for arthritis xRay should be done along with arthritis markers and medication can be changed depending upon all reports and severity of the disease. And for urinary tract infection, consult internal medicine Physician after getting urine culture and sensitivity reports.

Psoriasis is an auto immune disease and we can control it but not cure it fully and if it has lead to arthritis than you will have to take medication but also contact a Rheumatologist for further guidance.

I am suffering from psoriatic arthritis, early stage please suggest me how to cure it.

Psoriatic arthritis is an autoimmune disease, meaning it occurs when the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks healthy tissue, in this case the joints and skin. The faulty immune response causes inflammation that triggers joint pain, stiffness and swelling. Triggers include hormonal imbalance, smoking, drugs, infection and many others. Treatment for psoriatic arthritis consists of twice daily moist heat or cold applications, exercises, and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). If there is little improvement or if there are permanent changes visible on an X-ray, then a disease-modifying antirheumatic drug (DMARD) or a biologic drug will be added to help prevent long-term joint damage. You cannot prevent this disease but can ease your symptoms and prevent long term damage by taking medication, exercising, minding your postures. Change your position at work, at home, and throughout the day. Sit and stand up straight, and don't arch your back. Good posture helps you feel better. Take break in between your work, Put as little stress on them as possible. Use larger, stronger joints when you can, instead of smaller ones.
