1. Ebola virus is transmitted from infected monkey, pigs, bats etc to human beings through the infected animal’s body fluid like blood, faeces and urine etc. The disease is mostly prevalent in African countries. It is a contagious disease and death occurs due to severe bleeding, multiple organ failure, Jaundice, delirium, shock, coma seizure etc
2. The early symptoms of the disease are fever, severe headache, body ache, sore throat, joint and muscle pain, chills, weakness
3. The symptoms gradually become more severe with
a) Nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, Diarrhea (may be bloody diarrhea)
c) Red eyes, raised rash, lymphadenopathy
d) Cough, chest pain, severe weight loss
e) There is bleeding usually from eyes, ear, nose, rectum
f) in terminal stage there is internal bleeding and death occurs due multiple organ failure
Prevention- avoid contact with wild animal/infected people/ wear protective clothings like glove, mask, wash yor hand. Treatment- symptomatic withfluid/oxygen/blood transfusion. Diagnosis – serological by Elisatest (demonstration of IgG/IgM antibody, RT PCr (reverse Transcriptase/real time PCR for Viral load.
