Monocytes Absolute count test is required when the human body shows symptoms such as less immunity, chronic infections, autoimmune disease, and leukemia. As the name Monocyte Absolute indicates the Monocytes count in the blood are supposed to be maintained within a certain range (say 400 – 1000 cnts/cml) in the blood cell. These range may vary from age group, height, weight and stamina of individuals. Monocytes are the white blood cells produced in Bone marrow and get into the blood and enter the tissues and help the body to develop the immune system. The Adverse effect on the body can be encountered even if the count increases or decreases in the blood cells.
Monocyte Absolute Count test requires a blood sample. Before test, ask following questions to a patient. Patient's previous medication may affect the Monocytes count. So Check the patient's previous medications. The patient might be weak because of less immunity. Technician must check if the patient is hydrated well so that once the blood is drawn the patient will not end up with nausea or light head. Ask Questions about allergic to latex. It is essential to know about the priority necessary for the test results consulting with the physician. No fasting is required for this test.
As the count directly affects the immune system it is essential to know the monocyte count. In case of Monocytopenia, Monocytosis, heart attack or leukemia this test is essential. This test helps to know if the given medication works well for the patient. The test results might slightly vary for normal persons.It is always good to check with the physician to prevent from adverse effect in future due to the abnormalities. The early stages of leukemia and chemotherapy detection helps to save a life.
Patient must be comfortably seated. The Monocyte Absolute count may require 1 – 2 tubes of the blood sample based on the person's condition. A Band is tied up tightly on arm and the vein is identified for drawing out the blood. The vein area is wiped with Alcohol cleansing pad and the syringe is injected to draw out the required amount of blood. Once the blood is drawn, cotton or band-aid is placed on the pricked area and the blood is saved.
