MP QBC Test

MP QBC Test

The QBC (Quantitative Buffy Coat) Malaria test is a revolutionary in malaria and other blood borne parasite testing technology. This test is microscopic test and is easier as it contains all the staining agents in a single tube. This test is sensitive and specific test which can be performed by any technician who can work with thick and thin films. This is the easiest and fastest tests when compared to all the other test since it takes only 6-7 minutes to prepare the test tube for the test.

No special preparation is required for these tests, Wearing a short sleeve or sleeveless shirt or T-shirt will be helpful for the technicians to draw blood from the veins. If the patient is on certain medications or is undergoing any treatment for allergies then the doctor may give the patient certain instructions to be followed before the test.

This test is used to detect and diagnose the Malaria parasites present in the person’s blood. It is the most easiest and fastest test when compared to the other tests. This test is most preferred because of its increased sensitivity, specificity, Saves time, Simple set up. In this test you can view the whole test tube under microscope using Paraviewer. This gives the technician a 3 dimensional view when compared to the other tests which can only provide 1 Dimensional view.

For the blood to be drawn, at first the area is cleansed with an antiseptic and tourniquet is placed around the upper arm for pressure. A needle is inserted into the vein and blood is drawn and collected in a vial. Only 55-110μL of blood is taken. Now, the tourniquet is removed and the patient is provided with cotton balls to prevent further bleeding. After drawing blood from the patient the blood is introduced into the pre- prepared test tube coated with Acidic orange and Potassium Oxalate and is centrifuged at 1200 rpm for 5 minutes. Now this blood solution when viewed under a microscope, the Malaria parasites are highlighted in the background of RBC’s (Red Blood Corpuscles).
