MRI Scan - SI Joints Test

MRI Scan SI Joint Test is done in order to detect sacroiliac joint dysfunction. This test is instructed by a doctor only if the physical test does not determine the exact cause of the pain. If the patient is suffering from severe low back pain, then only this test is recommended after performing physical tests. Some of the indications of sacroiliac joints are a neoplasm of joints, infections in bones or joints, degenerative arthritis, sacroiliitis, ankylosing spondylitis, psoriasis, osteoarthritis, and gout. Patients undergoing MRI Scan SI Joint test need to notify doctor or radiology technologist, in case if they are pregnant or having an insulin pump. Patients are required to change their dress and wear the one given in the hospital before undergoing MRI Scan SI joint test. It is essential to remove all the metallic objects present on the patient's body such as hairpins, coins in the wallet, jewelry, hearing aids or eyeglasses. These objects may interfere with the X-ray radiations and cause false results of the test. There is no special diet required in the food before undergoing this test.

MRI Scan SI test is essential in order to detect sacroiliac dysfunction that causes severe pain in the lower back of the person. The test concludes the following results: Test results will be negative if there are no abnormalities are seen in the joints. Test results will be positive if there is dysfunction in a sacroiliac joint or malfunctioning of the joint.

Test results will be positive, in case if there are any infections in the bones or joints or even in the soft tissues. Even if there is Neoplasm in bone, joints or soft tissues, test yields positive results.

MRI Scan SI test is done by passing X-Ray radiations on the patient in order to determine the dysfunction of the sacroiliac joint. In order to take this test, patients are first advised to lie on the X-Ray table. Then the patient will be positioned in the supine position, then spine coil and body coil are perfectly positioned over the pelvis.

Then the body straps are used to secure tightly and pass the X-ray radiations on the body of the patient. The rays are focused on the anterior superior iliac spine. Once the images are taken, then they will be processed in few minutes.
