I'm 27 years old. I am a smoker since last 6-7 years. I have consulted with a psychiatrist about my addiction. And he advice me to take topiramate tablet. So, my question is that, does topiramate have the potential to reduce craving and does topiramate has any use in case of quit smoking?

MBBS, DPM
Psychiatrist, Bangalore
Dear Saikat, The doctor might have diagnosed a mood disorder in addition to your nicotine dependance. Unless the mood is stabilised, you may not be able to quit smoking. It may not reduce craving - but it will keep your motivation to quit high continuously for more than 3 months. You yourself will learn how to observe the craving going down without smoking.

I am a 23 year old woman. I have been mildly addicted to smoking (once or twice a day) and have been wanting to quit completely. I started to use nicotine gums. However, when I spit the saliva laden with nicotine, I kept seeing red bits, probably mouth lining. How dangerous to my oral health is the usage of nicotine gum. What are safer alternatives?

There are other options also available to quit smoking addiction. It requires time to get rid of it's urge. Text consult me for the same. If you have any family or friends support that would be a plus point in treatment.

Hello lybrate-user, it's not uncommon to feel discouraged when you're struggling to find a job or achieve your goals, but it's important to remember that setbacks and challenges are a normal part of life. Take some time to reflect on what you really want to achieve and why it's important to you. Think about what motivates you and what you're passionate about. This can help you regain focus and direction. Drinking and smoking can be harmful to your health and may contribute to feelings of depression or anxiety. Try to focus on self-care activities that make you feel good, such as exercising, meditating, or spending time in nature.
