Proteins Test

Proteins Test

also known as: Serum Total Protein Blood, Sr. Total Protein Blood, Protein Total, Serum Total Protein, Sr. Total Protein

The complete protein test is often carried out to determine the presence of proteins in your blood,
mainly your albumin and globulin levels. It is often used as a form of early screening test for
indication of serious health issue. If you find that you are experiencing some of the symptoms
posted below, then you need to consult with your doctor right away as they could well be indicators
to more serious health issues.
Some of the symptoms associated with protein imbalance are –
Fatigue
Light headedness
Unexplained weight loss
Dizzy spells
Sudden loss of appetite
If any of the above sound familiar, do consult with your physician right away and get a total protein
workout done at the earliest.

Your doctor would first review your medical profile and submit you to a brief physical examination; after a careful review, he would order for a total protein test. The test is to determine the presence of proteins, mainly Albumin and Globulin levels in your body, as low levels are often taken to indicate kidney, liver disease and much more. Depending on the results of the test, your doctor may order additional tests to determine the underlying issue and treat the same effectively.

The total protein test is used to determine the level of proteins in your blood and its make up; it is vital that you get yourself tested for proteins on a regular basis as a way to better protect your health.

You do not have to undergo any special prep; you may be put on a diet restriction before taking the test, and you will have to inform your doctor whether you are currently taking any medication for any current health issue. Your physician will ask you to refrain from taking any meds for 24 hrs prior to taking the test.

You would be asked to roll up your sleeves, after which your doctor would first tie a rubber band around your arm to make your veins jut out. He would then use an antiseptic on the target area, and using a sterile syringe, collect a small sample of your blood from your vein. He would then remove the rubber band, and bandage your wound. The sample would be collected in a sterile container and sent to the lab for processing. The results should become available within a short while, after which your doctor would order additional tests, changes to your current diet and prescribe medication to offset your current symptoms.

Clinical interpretation is greatly enhanced by examination of the fractions composing total protein, when such separation is clinically indicated.
