Silver (Blood) Test

Silver is exposed to the bod through various routes. Primary route of entry for silver compounds and colloidal silver proteins is through ingestion. When skin contacts silver components through application of creams, jewellery, acupuncture needles, catheters, dental amalgams etc. Soluble silver compounds are absorbed than metallic or insoluble silver due to which adverse effects is caused on human body. Acute symptoms like low blood pressure, diarrhoea stomach irritation. Long period inhalation of soluble silver may cause argyria or argyrosis and silver any form in toxic to immune, cardiovascular, nervous, or reproductive systems.

Patients may undergo prior tests like Complete Blood Test, Liver function tests (for evidence of hepatic involvement) stool studies – Individuals with a travel history and urinalysis. Based on these tests next procedures are done. Patient may advised to consult geneticist, gastroenterologist, nutritionist, and endocrinologist. Patient is advised to take in water consumption and usually blood test is performed in the morning between 7am to 9am. You may be requested for a needle prick on your skin for multiple allergy test and fasting is not required. This test may undergo 20 to 40 minutes. X-ray doesn’t require any special or complicated preparation before the test.

Physical and medical history is studied. Complete blood check will be done. Silver sulfadiazine cream was applied to a postsurgical wound for immediate relief. Frequent blood and urine test is requested to monitor concentration of silver. Patients may advised to undergo biopsy in case of infections. Haemolysis test will be performed by spectrophotometric measurement of haemoglobin. Patient may undergo Confocal and specular microscopy, X-ray analysis, and electron-microscopy for argyria or argyrosis diagnosis and Electrophysiological tests will be done in case retinal damage. Patient may advised to undergo Silver allergy using scratch tests and intradermal injection of 0.05 ml of 1% silver nitrate. Wound care medications is given to control infections in chronic wounds.
