There’s no need to adjust your diet. You can both eat and drink normally. However, your doctor may require that you fast for a specific amount of time before the test. That’s common if the blood sample will be used for additional testing. Your doctor will give you specific instructions.

The result of TORCH test is important in finding out whether you have a infectious disease or recently had one. The result will be either positive or negative. A positive result will mean IgM and IgG antibodies were found present. A negative result means no past or present infections. If a newborn is tested positive in this test, it will show a current infection. Presence of both IgG and IgM antibodies will suggest the transference of this infection from the mother to the fetus through the placenta. It doesn’t mean an active infection.

This test requires taking a sample of your blood. First, a lab assistant will cleanse your arm with an antiseptic. To create pressure and cause your veins to swell with blood, a band, will be applied around your arm. A needle will be inserted in one of your veins to draw a small sample of blood(few ml). An appropriate amount of blood will be collected. After that the needle will be removed and a small bandage will be placed on your arm where the needle was inserted. You’ll be recommended to maintain some pressure at the site where the needle was placed for a few minutes, as it reduces blood flow.
