Aerobic exercises examples




All cardio type exercises come in aerobic exercise for example brisk walking, swimming, running, cycling. Aerobic means activities with oxygen. These exercises increase the breathing and heart rate which in turn keep your heart, lungs, and circulatory system active and healthy. These exercises also prevent us from many heart and lung diseases.

There is anaerobic exercise which differs from aerobic. In anaerobic weight lifting, sprinting, running are the exercises. These exercises are done for a short time and include energy but aerobic exercise is for a long time and the body has time to use oxygen.

There are many types of aerobic exercises performed at home and gym.



1. Jump rope

Equipment: sports shoes for gym like sneakers, jump rope.

Benefits: jumping rope maintains the hand foot coordination, healthy heart and improves body agility.



Safety: you should adjust the rope according to your height. Avoid using too long rope, cut and tie rope.

Duration and frequency: 15 to 25 minutes 3-5 times a day.

We should follow the jump rope circuit which is a great activity and it is fun. You can follow it inside but you must have plenty of space to do.

Steps for jump rope circuit:



Joog by rope in forward direction moving from head to feet.


Reverse the direction and jog in the backward direction.


Now do hopscotch jump.


Next step is to criss cross the rope while jumping. When you jump in place, in jumping you change the sides of the rope and rotate your hand. When your hand reaches back you release the criss cross in a position of normal jumping.



This is the circuit which we should do for 15 min. We should put a gap between the sets. For advanced level sets are done for a short time.



2) aerobic strength exercises ;

Equipment: sports shoes for gym like sneakers, a chair for dips.



Benefits: this aerobic exercise improves heart muscles and strengthens cardiovascular, tone many muscles. ;



Safety:



There must be focus on the exercise to avoid injury.


Heart rate should not exceed high.


Small conversation is allowed and necessary.

Duration and frequency: we should perform it for 10 to 15 minutes, 5-6 times per week.



This aerobic circuit here is for raising your heart rate. And toning your muscles.



First, do squats.


Then do lunges.


Then perform push ups.


Then perform the triceps dips


Then do torso twists.



Do this circuit for 2 -3 times with a gap of 10 minutes.

3) running or jogging

Equipment: running sports shoes



Benefits: this is the best exercise in aerobic exercise. It can increase heart rate and improve one's health. It burns fat, tone muscles and improves your health. ;



Safety concerns: good routes, good shoes, are needed as concerns because they can affect your leg.

Duration and frequency: half an hour we should run.



We should run for 30 minutes daily. Pace in run can be changed from fast to slow.

We should walk for sometime and stretch before running.

4) swimming

Equipment: pool, swimsuit, swimming goggles



Benefits: swimming gives strength to the body, it's for all body exercises. Those who are recovering from serious injury, swimming is good. It gives strength to the hand and leg.

Safety: we should not swim alone in a pond or in a pool. We should go in the water when there is a lifeguard. For beginner you should get swim lessons




Duration and frequency: we should go swimming for 30 minutes. Thrice a week is good and exceeding the time increases your strength.

There are many types of swimming such butterfly, breaststroke, backstroke, free style. Beginners should do a freestyle of 1 or 2 laps. Give the gap between the laps if needed and follow the guidelines of swimming. Many types of swimming are there in which more time is needed and helps us.



5) elliptical machine

Benefits: elliptical machines used for cardio exercises. Working on this there is no pressure on hips, knees, back. In all other exercises like running, treadmills there is stress in this area.

Safety:



We should look forward while using the machine, looking down may be stressful to our eyes. And that's not good posture to do.


For beginners if you feel unsteady please take help to do the exercise.



Duration and frequency: 30 minutes per day and 4 times in a week.

The elliptical machine for beginners is not so easy but after trying it for a few days it is easy to use. We should first warm ourselves at a slow pace for 10 minutes. Keep the head straight and forward, and the leg should be on the pedal while using these machines.

Whole body should be in posture, should be at the back, legs should move straight. After doing it for 30 minutes, slow yourself to slowly cool down. Step down the machines and do stretching.

Increases the time of activities so that your strength increases.

Inherited cardiac ;conditions refer to those cardiac conditions that you inherit from your parents. These are also referred to as inherited heart conditions or genetic heart disorders. Inherited cardiac conditions are often life-threatening and can affect anyone at any age.

Genetics play a vital role in influencing the risk of cardiac diseases in more than one way. From the robustness of the blood vessels to the way the cells in your heart communicate the genes control every aspect of the cardiovascular system. A genetic mutation influences your chances of developing cardiovascular diseases. For instance, a genetic mutation can alter the way certain proteins function so that your body is able to process cholesterol differently, putting you at risk of blocked arteries. Parents pass on genetic mutations to their children through the dna of sperm and ova. The genetic code of the parent is reproduced into each cell of the child during his/her developing years.

Types of inherited cardiac conditions

A healthy heart beats 60-100 times per minute. Normally, every muscle contraction of the heart is controlled by electrical signals that travel from the heart s upper chambers to the lower ones. A heart blockage disrupts the flow of electrical signals of the heart.

Heart blockage is partial when the electrical impulses are stopped or delayed, preventing the heart from beating regularly. A complete blockage, on the other hand, occurs when the electrical signals come to a halt completely. In this case, the heart rate drops below 40 bpm.

Many times, a heart block makes it harder for the heart to pump blood through the circulatory system, so the organs and muscles, including your brain, do not receive an adequate supply of oxygen to function properly.

Types of heart blockage and associated symptoms

Depending on the type of heart blockage, a person may encounter the following signs



First-degree blockage this is the least fatal type of heart blockage. Symptoms include minor disruptions in heartbeat or skipped beats.


Second-degree blockage ;this occurs when some of the electrical signals do not reach the heart. Signs may include skipped or dropped beats, and dizziness.


Third-degree blockage ;this is the most serious of all heart blockage conditions. This happens when the electrical signals do not travel between the lower and upper chambers of your heart. Most patients require a pacemaker for this condition. Without it, you may be at risk of a heart attack.

Cardiac Health Check-Ups! Do You Actually Need It?

A word about 'cardiac health check-ups'.

Q. Nowadays many hospitals, clinics and path labs have come up with a variety of health check-ups especially cardiac health check-ups. Many corporates doing annual check-ups. So how useful are they, who should get it done and when?

Ans. Doing a variety of unnecessary investigations in healthy individuals without any symptoms is a big no. It should not be done and are totally useless.

Q. 2. What tests do you say are useless as part of cardiac health checkup in apparently healthy individuals.

Ans. Ecg, echo, TMT, stress test, ct angio should not be done at all, do not add any value to your overall health status.

Q3. Why do you say these tests are useless.
Ans. They are useless because many trials around the world over last 20 years have proven beyond doubt, that even if you have underlying blockages in heart, which does not cause any symptoms, then treating them will neither prevent you from a future heart attack nor prolong your life.
It is also possible that today you have ECG, echo normal and still, you develop a heart attack tomorrow. So these tests give a false sense of security which has no value actually.
Also due to this false security, such people with normal reports have a tendency to continue their unhealthy lifestyle

Q4. What are the tests you say are useful?
Ans. Know your blood pressure, blood sugar, lipid profile (cholesterol, LDL, triglyceride and HDL) and body mass index (BMI) as part of your routine health check-up. That's it.
In lipid profile, there is no use of getting unnecessary tests like lp (a), homocysteine, apo (b) and a variety of other scary variables that you commonly see in the report.

Note - in a specific subset of people who have a strong family history of cardiac disease or sudden cardiac death may undergo ECG, echo, TMT as part of routine evaluation

Lastly and most importantly no health check-up can replace a healthy lifestyle and exercise. It is the surest way of avoiding heart ailments.

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation or CPR is an activity that should be learnt by everybody. It s a skill that comes handy at the time of the crisis. Owing to the fact that 90 percent of the overall cardiac related conditions occur outside the hospital, learning CPR becomes essential. A person with the knowledge of CPR can save the life of a patient in those crucial seconds when life hangs in the balance. Here is a brief know how about CPR and the way it is done:

Before CPR is started:

It is necessary to tap the patient on the shoulder and ask if he is fine. If the answer is not in the affirmative, seeking medical help is the best possible alternative. If medical help such as ambulance is out of reach, starting the CPR is the best possible way to go.

CPR for children above 9 years:

The patient should be laid on their back and the person intending to give the CPR should kneel next to the shoulder and neck of the patient. The heel of one hand should be placed to the center of the chest of the patient. The heel of the other hand should be placed over the lace and first fingers together. The elbow of the person intending to give the CPR should be kept straight and the shoulder should be aligned directly over the hands. Thus, begins the process of compression as hard as possible. The aim should be to compress at least 100 times within a single minute. The chest should be given the chance to arise fully in between each compression. One small hat tip in this regard is to give the CPR in the disco mode. One beat at a time.

CPR for infants and children below 9 years:

Before starting the CPR, the head should be tilted backward and the chin should be lifted upward to open the passage for the airway. In case the breathing is absent, either of the below-mentioned rescue breaths should be applied:

For a child, the nose should be shut and mouth should be completely sealed.
For an infant, the seal is applicable on the mouth and the nose both.
This should be followed by blowing in the mouth till the chest has a visible rise. There should at least be 30 chest compressions given to the patient within a minute. While For a child the chest should be pushed with one or two hands, for an infant, the chest should be pushed with no more than three fingers. The above steps should be repeated three to four times.
