West Nile Virus IgG Test

West Nile Virus IgG Test

A West Nile virus IgG is a test to know about the physical health of the person through the presence of its symptoms transmitted through infected birds directly or by its presence in the antibody. Generally, the viral infection is caused by mosquitoes. The symptoms are hardly visible in most of the cases, but for the rest few, the symptoms include developing a fever, headache, vomiting or rash. The lab report generated by this test shows virtually the presence of IgG class antibodies in a serum specimen. In most cases, it will be detectable for 1 or 2 months following the disease revolution for the others it may take 12 months or longer.

It is recommended that wearing a shirt with half sleeve or foldable sleeve that makes it convenient for the blood test is feasible. No changes are to be observed in the diet routine before taking the test. If, however under any circumstances cautions are to be taken in the diet then the doctor will inform about same prior to the tests. Also, in any case the instructions given by the lab are to be duly followed.

The blood sample is used to know about the presence of west nile virus or any related illness such as meningitis or encephalitis. If the antibody testing detects either IgG or IgM class of WNV antibodies the person is said to be infected with the west nile fever. In other case, the genetic material of WNV is detected and the sample of the said person is considered infected. Generally, the case isn’t severe and can be treated with general treatments. Only 1 in a case of 150 infected with WNV becomes seriously ill.

Cerebrospinal fluid can be collected from spinal tap and/or blood sample. For the latter, the required quantity say; one to two teaspoons of blood sample would directly be collected from you. The test can be undertaken at doctor’s clinic, test center or infirmaries. An alcohol pad is used to clean the skin and to identify the vein. A needle is then injected through the part of the rinsed skin into the vein that can be seen from the skin. The blood is then tugged out through the needle by a nozzle and is then saved in a vessel and sealed with your name. This sample is used for research in the laboratory.
