X-Ray Hand (PA / LAT View) Test

X-Ray Hand (PA / LAT View) Test

An x-ray test involves scanning the inside of an individual’s body. This test produces images of the tissues, cells, and bones of the body part which is scanned. The hand x-ray test is conducted by passing a small amount of radiation through the hand for producing the scanned images. The lateral view keeps the hand at a 90 degrees position while the posteroanterior (PA) view studies the hand rested flat on the table. It is a pain-free procedure and only lasts for around 20-30 minutes. It helps the doctor in analysing any abnormalities in the hand bones or tissues.

Before the x-ray process, you would be required to take off any jewellery or metal objects in and around the hand which is being scanned. The doctor will suggest you any other changes if your medical condition requires so. The process only scans a part of your upper body. Therefore, no special preparations are needed as such. Talk to your healthcare practitioner regarding the medication you are on. He/she will ask you to avoid any medicines that can cause false results.

This test is primarily used to study the structure of the hands. It scans the interior of the hand and the doctor analyses the same for providing the following inferences: Presence of lumps or tumours in the tissues Risk of arthritis Determining the effects of treatment Any abnormalities or fractures in the bones

The doctor will ask you to sit at the examination table and adjust it according to your forearm. Your hand will be rested on the table according to the angle of the view test. The peripheral x-ray machine passes the radiation through the hand and creates the scanned images. You have to avoid any kind of movement or tension in your hand during the scanning process. You have to keep all the fingers separated in order to present a clear picture.

Average price range of the test is between Rs.200 to Rs.1300 depending on the factors of city, quality and availablity.
