About Alkasol Syrup

Alkasol Syrup belongs to the urinary alkaliser group of medicines which is indicated in some conditions like gout, kidney stones and renal tubular acidosis. It consists of Disodium hydrogen phosphate which after metabolic breakdown forms bicarbonate.

As a result of this, excretion of free bicarbonate ions is increased which leads to increased solubility of cysteine in the urine and ionisation of uric acid to the soluble urate ion. Hence, the pH of urine is increased, making the urine less acidic in nature.

Alkasol Syrup should be consumed in a prescribed dosage under the recommendation of a doctor. It should be taken preferably after meals after diluting it with a glass of water. It is important to have it for a duration as prescribed by the treating physician. A prolonged use must be avoided.

Certain side effects may also be faced in some cases including nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, fatigue and abdominal pain and discomfort. Though these may resolve themselves without causing any complications, consultation with a doctor should be preferred if any of the side effects are experienced.
