About Allegra-M Tablet

Allegra-M Tablet is popularly used for common cold symptoms, symptoms of allergic conditions, runny nose, sneezing, allergic rhinitis, hay fever, exercise-induced asthma and other breathing-related problems. It is a combination of leukotriene receptor antagonist and an antihistamine.

The medicine acts against leukotriene and histamine respectively, natural substanced released by the body during such conditions causing problems like headache, fever, sore throat, runny nose and other common cold symptoms.

A doctor can prescribe it along with another medicine and can work in combination to improve the conditions. It treats allergic symptoms associated with seasonal and all year round allergies as well.

The dosage of the medication will depend on your age and severity of the allergy. It is advisable that you list out the medical history before taking the medicine, as it can cause a few side effects under certain conditions.

It is advisable that pregnant women and breastfeeding women must avoid this medication unless clearly mentioned by the doctor. It does have side effects like dizziness, fatigue, cough, headache, pus in urine, heartburn, skin rashes, difficulty in breathing and hypersensitivity reactions and a few others.

    The medicine is a combination of two drugs: Montelukast and Fexofenadine. The former is a leukotriene antagonist, which works by blocking the action of leukotriene (chemical messengers). This leads to reduction of swelling/inflammation in the airways passage and nose and also improves the symptoms. Whereas the Fexofenadine is an anti-allergic, works by blocking the action of Histamine, which is another chemical messenger responsible for watery eyes, runny nose and sneezing.

      Whenever you take more than one medicine, or mix it with certain foods or beverages, you"re at risk of a drug interaction.

        When taken with alcohol, this pill can increase the patients risk of developing drowsiness.

      • Interaction with Medicine

        When you are under other medications, it is advisable that you discuss it with the doctor as some medicines can react with Allegra-M Tablet and can lead to serious complications. You must tell your doctors about the use of vitamins, supplements, herbal supplements or medications related to your other diseases. The major medicines that you must avoid while consuming Allegra-M Tablet are ketoconazole, phenobarbital, antacids, rifampicin, ritonavir, phenytoin, gemfibrozil, erythromycin and aluminium.

        It can have negative interactions with certain diseases. These include impaired kidney function, and impaired liver function

        Ans : The favoured dose of Allegra for adults and children (12 years of age and older) is 60 mg every 12 hours or 120 mg once daily. For people having kidney disease, the usual starting dose is 60 mg once daily. All these doses shall be taken by mouth. It may be taken with or without food. Avoid lengthened use of this medication, except if recommended by a doctor. Various things such as the person’s body weight or his/her medical conditions can affect the dose of medication that a he/she needs.
