About AMARYL MV 2MG TABLET SR

This is a combination medication which has Glimepiride, Metformin, and Voglibose as active ingredients. It is used in treating patients suffering from type 2 Diabetes, who can't control blood sugar levels through diet and exercise alone. Hence this drug is used to enhance the positive effects of diet and exercise concerning blood sugar. It is also used in combination with other antidiabetic medicines.

This medication is a type of sulfonylurea antidiabetic medicine. It helps the pancreas in releasing insulin thus helping reduce the blood sugar level. This medication belongs to a class of drugs known as sulfonylureas.

    How does this medication work?

    This medication lowers blood glucose by stimulating the release of insulin from pancreatic beta cells. Metformin decreases glucose production in the liver, decreases intestinal absorption of glucose, and improves insulin sensitivity by increasing bodies glucose uptake and utilization. Voglibose selectively inhibits α-glucosidase in the intestinal wall, delaying the digestion and absorption of carbohydrates, thereby preventing a sudden rise in blood glucose levels after food.
