About Atosiban

Atosiban is a desamino-oxytocin analogue that acts as an antagonist of oxytocin receptor or competetive vasopressin receptor. It inhibits hormones like oxytocin and vasopressin and is used as labour repressant medication that is used to delay or halt premature labour. It can be used for tocolysis during preterm period and also for the reduction of excessive contractions experienced at the term.

Before taking Atosiban you should always consult your doctor, especially if you have abruptio placentae, multipla gestation, eclampsia or pre-eclampsia, undiagnosed vaginal bleeding, intrauterine fetal distress, suspected chorioamnionitis, or fetal death. Also you should not take Atosiban for any other purpose, other than as a labour repressant. There are no reported side effects or any adverse reactions on using Atosiban.
