About Benzthiazide
Benzthiazide is used for the management of mild to moderate hypertension; treatment of edema in congestive heart failure and nephrotic syndrome.Medication should be taken after meal to avoid GI upset.
Side effects: Dizziness;Dry mouth; Nausea; Vomiting; Constipation; Weakness; Blurred vision; Confusion; Electrolyte imbalance; Gastrointestinal imbalance; Constipation; Itching; Jaundice; Muscle cramps.Contra-indications of Benzthiazide: Hyper uricaemia; Renal impairment; Hepatic impairment; Hypersensitivity to the drug; Hypercalcaemia; Fluid and electrolyte imbalance; Hypersensitivity to sulfonamides; Anuria
Precautions: Special precaution may be taken during the following disease like - Gout; Diabetes mellitus; Monitor and correct fluid and electrolyte imbalance; Renal impairment; Hepatic impairment; Cirrhosis; Hyperparathyroidism. Report unresolved weight gain (more than 3-5 pounds in 3 days). You may experience dizziness or drowsiness; change positions slowly and use caution when driving or engaging in tasks that require alertness until response to drug is known. May cause photosensitivity, use sunscreen wear protective clothing and eyewear and avoid direct sunlight. Patient may experience decreased sexual function; this will resolve when medication is discontinued. Report increased swelling of ankles, fingers, dizziness or trembling, cramps, or muscle pain. Do not get pregnant while taking this medication, use appropriate barrier contraceptive measures. Consult your doctor or pharmacists if breastfeeding.
Toxicity: Symptoms of overdose include nausea, vomiting, fatigue, urinary problems and drowsiness.Drug interaction: Benzthiazide may interact with alcohol, blood thinners, decongestant drugs (allergy, cold, and sinus medicines), diabetic drugs, lithium, norepinephrine, NSAIDs like Aleve or Ibuprofen, and high blood pressure medications.,/p>
