About Carbachol
Carbachol is primarily administered for ophthalmic purposes, such as treatment of glaucoma. The main usage of the drug is to help in the constricting of pupils during a cataract surgery. It is also used to reduce the intraocular pressure in the eyes. The Carbachol drug is also used to trigger the emptying of the bladder in case the usual mechanism becomes non-functional. The medicine also helps in miosis after implantation of lens during cataract operation and in increasing the outflow of the aqueous humour.
The drug is contraindicated in patients suffering from severe asthma, urinary incontinence, gastric ulcers or coronary insufficiency.
The risks of overdose are relatively less in comparison to other nerve agents. However, it is best to maintain precautions and take the dosage as directed by the doctor. Some common side effects include the increase of tear production the eyes, blurry vision and temporary stinging of the eyes, increase in photosensitivity, light headaches or a cloudy vision temporarily.
