About Clarinase Tablet

Clarinase Tablet is used to tone down the effects of histamine. Therefore, referred to as antihistamine. It also possesses adrenergic activity. Hence, the drug acts as a nasal decongestant too.

Histamine is a chemical which is found in some body’s cells and it causes cold, sneezing, runny nose, itchy nose, eye irritation, red and itchy skin, high fever, skin disorder and allergies and many other conditions. It is also used to cure hives and other skin disorders.

This tablet contains Loratadine and Pseudoephedrine as active ingredients present. It works by blocking the effect of histamine and stimulate the alpha adrenergic receptor.

It is also known to produce allergic reactions by narrowing the blood vessels and reducing the swelling in the nasal passage, which leads to clearance of stuffy and blocked nose.

Children below the age of 6 years are advised not to take this drug. Breastfeeding women are also advised to avoid the tablet, as it may result in contaminating the breast milk. Pregnant women are advised to take this drug only on the prescription of the doctor. It is prescribed to take the tablet as a whole and not crush it or chew it.

      If the patient misses the dose, it is advised to take such dose as soon as it comes to the notice of the patient. If the time of the next scheduled is near then it is advised to skip the missed dose.

      It is advised to prevent overdosage. However, in case of an overdose, one must immediately inform the doctor. Symptoms of overdose may include dizziness, restlessness, confusion, increased heart rate, and seizures.

    How does this medication work?

    Clarinase Tablet works by dual mechanism. It is comprised of 2 drugs: Loratadine and Pseudoephedrine. The former is the anti-allergic drug, which works by blocking the action of histamine, responsible for runny nose, watery eyes and sneezing as well. Whereas the latter one is a decongestant which narrows the small blood vessels, leads to temporary relief from nasal stuffiness and congestion.

        Clarinase Tablet when taken with alcohol results in increasing the risk of side effects like drowsiness on a major level. Alcohol must be avoided while administering this drug.

Some medicines which may interact with medicine are Amprenavir, Cardiac glycosides, Clarithromycin, Erythromycin, Fluconazole, Fluoxetine, Ketoconazole, Procarbazine, Quinidine, and Tricyclic antidepressants.

        Liver/kidney disease patients must take caution with Clarinase Tablet. Though it is advised to inform the doctor about any prior disease before taking this drug.
