About Clopitorva 20 Capsule

This is a combination medication which has Atorvastatin and Clopidogrel as active ingredients. Also, it belongs to a group of drugs known as “statins”. It reduces the level of low-density lipoprotein or “bad cholesterol” in the body. This medication helps in curing various conditions like narrowing of arteries that arises due to the high cholesterol levels in the body.

This drug is also used to lower the risk of stroke, heart attack or coronary heart diseases. Use of this medication must be as per directed by the doctor. You should also consult with your doctor regarding the intake of this drug in case you are suffering from kidney disease or undergoing dialysis.

This medication might also cause certain side effects. If these severe side effects appear, it is necessary to seek medical help right away. The common ones amongst them are constipation, headache, stomach pain, weakness etc. However sometimes it might also cause some severe side effects like

    How does this medication work?

    This medication increases the number of hepatic LDL receptors on the cell surface, enhancing uptake and catabolism of LDL and it inhibits the hepatic synthesis of VLDL, thereby reducing the total number of VLDL and LDL particles. Clopidogrel is a prodrug with anticoagulatory properties that are broken down by CYP450 enzymes to its active metabolite that prevents adenosine diphosphate (ADP) from binding to its platelet P2Y12 receptor. This inhibits the ADP-mediated activation of the glycoprotein GPIIb/IIIa complex, which in turn inhibits coagulation.
