COLICAID

Colicaid contains simethicone which helps to break the gas bubbles in babies and infants caused by air swallowing and certain types of infant formulas. The medication is generally given after meals during bedtime. Only the prescribed dosage should be given to the children; the correct dosage should be mixed with water to give it to the baby. If any of the previous problems persist, then a paediatrician should be immediately consulted.

Uses

Simethicone relieves painful pressure, hiccups, bloating and fullness which is caused by excess gas in the stomach and intestines in adults and children.

Side Effects

The other ingredients that are present in the medicine might cause allergic effects

Expert Advice

Avoid the consumption of this medicine if you are allergic to any of the ingredients present in the medicine. Don’t intake this medicine if you use mineral oil (paraffin oil) based laxatives.

How it works?

Simethicone belongs to the group of medications called surface active substances. It is an antifoaming agent that works by acting on the inner lining of the intestine, allowing the gas bubbles to come together more easily and helps to release trapped wind.

Swallowing air is the most common reason for flatus. Try to give breast milk in sitting posture and do burping before you put on bed. If you are giving bottle feed, try to give with spoon. It solves your problem. Consult your pediatrician for learning art of burping.

If baby is gaining weight about 500 gms per month & passing clear watery urine, your baby is absolutely fine. Just give him comfort, love & support. Be along with him during distress,i.e.Crying. We can not always stop a crying child, we can't know the cause every time. World over all babies cry for no reason, at some or other times. Colicaid may or may not help. Don't blame yourself for inability to stop cry. Things will settle in matter of few months. That is a part of life, we can't avoid. ...more

2 moth old baby's crting is what is called evening colic. It is generally harmless asd due to gaseous irritation. 1) you properly burp him lying with his abdomen pressed on your back or thigh and gently taping the back 2) give colicaid drops (which is natural product) 3-5 times a day 2) give cyclopam drops 5 drops when the crying is severe despite both the above measures. You can ask me privately to be in touch to be your family doctor.
